Hello, is there anyone out there?

I sit at my desk listening to my mobile / cellphone play merry tunes (theme tune from Benny Hill TV Series, to be precise) as it indicates that I have received yet another Christmas / New Year / Seasons greeting from a friend / colleague / member of my congregation / some company hoping I will visit with my credit card. Wonderful to feel all the love from so many people. At the same time I am trying to read all my emails, catch up with folk on Mixit, and get through Christmas!

I just wondered if there are any people out there! Our means of electronic communication has wonderful benefits (I could not manage without it and get frustrated with people who don't have these means of communication) but it also has depersonalised our communication somewhat. I can now read and "speak" with people without ever actually having to see you, hear you, or be with you. I may never meet you in the flesh (metaphorically, not literally, of course!)

I guess that what I need to do is to utilise all these wonderful means of communication but never lose contact with the need for physical presence and touch and face to face communication. Love requires physical presence and touch.
